Ingredients

  • 2 lbs fresh green beans trimmed
  • 8 slices bacon cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/4 cup butter melted
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder

Equipment

  • 1 9x13 inch Baking Dish
  • 1 Large Skillet

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Wash and trim the green beans.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon pieces until partially cooked but not yet crispy. Remove bacon with a slotted spoon, leaving the rendered fat in the skillet.
  3. Add the melted butter, packed brown sugar, soy sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder to the bacon fat in the skillet. Whisk until the sugar is dissolved.
  4. Place the trimmed green beans in a 9x13 inch baking dish. Pour the glaze over them and toss to coat. Sprinkle the partially cooked bacon on top.
  5. Bake for 20-25 minutes, stirring halfway through, until the green beans are tender and the glaze has thickened and caramelized.

Notes

Tip 1: For the best texture, be sure to use fresh green beans. Frozen ones will make the sauce watery.
Tip 2: Don't fully cook the bacon before baking. It will finish crisping up perfectly in the oven.
