Method
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef and diced onion until the beef is browned. Drain any excess grease.
- Remove the skillet from the heat. Stir in the mayonnaise, ketchup, 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper until the beef is fully coated.
- Without separating the rolls, slice the slab of Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally. Place the bottom half in a 9x13 inch baking dish. Spread the beef mixture evenly over the rolls. Top with the cheddar cheese slices, then place the top slab of rolls on top.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce, and onion powder.
- Brush the butter mixture over the tops of the rolls, then sprinkle with sesame seeds. Cover the dish with aluminum foil.
- Bake for 15 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, until the tops are golden brown and the cheese is bubbly. Let rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
For extra flavor, you can add a tablespoon of dijon mustard to the butter topping.
To prevent soggy bottoms, lightly toast the bottom buns for 3-5 minutes before adding the beef mixture.
Feel free to substitute the ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
