Ingredients

Pie Filling
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts optional

Equipment

  • 1 9-inch pie pan
  • 1 Mixing Bowl
  • 1 Whisk

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch pie pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and cocoa powder. If using nuts, stir them in.
  3. Add the melted butter, eggs, evaporated milk, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined. The batter will be thin.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared pie pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the edges are set and the center is slightly soft.
  5. Let the pie cool on a wire rack for at least 15-20 minutes before serving. Serve warm, preferably with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

Do Not Overbake: For the perfect molten center, ensure the middle of the pie is still slightly jiggly when you remove it from the oven.
Serving Suggestion: This pie is at its absolute best when served warm with a scoop of cold vanilla ice cream.
