Method
- Lay out the bread slices and spread the softened butter evenly on one side of each slice. This will be the outside of your sandwich.
- Place two slices of bread butter-side-down. Layer half of the shredded smoked Gouda on each slice. Arrange the thin apple slices in a single layer over the cheese. Top the apples with the remaining shredded Gouda.
- Place the remaining two slices of bread on top, butter-side-up. Heat a large non-stick skillet over medium-low heat. Carefully place the sandwiches in the skillet.
- Grill for 4-5 minutes on each side, until the bread is crisp and golden-brown and the cheese is fully melted. Press down gently with a spatula for an even crust.
- Remove from the skillet, slice diagonally, and serve immediately.
Notes
For an even crispier crust, you can substitute the butter with mayonnaise.
