Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted and slightly cooled (115g)
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar packed (100g)
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar (65g)
  • 1 large egg room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (5ml)
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour spooned and leveled (150g)
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda (3g)
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt (3g)
  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips divided (170g)
  • 2 tbsp red and pink heart-shaped sprinkles (30g)

Equipment

  • 1 8-inch or 10-inch Cast-Iron Skillet Essential for crispy raised edges.
  • 1 Large Mixing Bowl For preparing the dough.

Method

Preparation and Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease your cast-iron skillet with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until glossy.
  3. Gently fold in the flour, baking soda, and salt until just combined. Do not overmix.
  4. Fold in 3/4 cup of the milk chocolate chips. Press the dough evenly into the prepared skillet.
  5. Press the remaining chocolate chips and heart sprinkles into the top. Bake for 18-22 minutes until edges are golden and center is slightly underbaked. Cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Tip 1: Cast iron retains heat. Remove the skillet from the oven while the center still looks slightly wobbly so it doesn't overbake.
Tip 2: Serve warm with a generous scoop of vanilla bean ice cream for the ultimate romantic dessert.
