Method
- First, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 6-inch or 8-inch cast-iron skillet with butter.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until well combined. Add the egg yolk and vanilla extract and mix until smooth.
- In a separate small bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix! Gently fold in the chocolate chips.
- Press the cookie dough evenly into the prepared skillet. Sprinkle the top with your Valentine's themed sprinkles. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is set but still soft.
- Let the skillet cookie cool for about 5-10 minutes before serving. It will be very hot! Serve it warm, topped with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Notes
Don't Overbake: The key to a gooey center is pulling the cookie from the oven when the middle still looks slightly underdone.
Use Cast-Iron: A cast-iron skillet provides the best heat distribution for crispy edges and a perfectly cooked center.
Let It Rest: Allowing the cookie to rest for a few minutes before serving helps it set up properly.
